The Greene County Historical Museum is busier than usual since the start of the school year, with students from both county school districts visiting the Smithsonian Institution’s Hometown Teams exhibit.
Greene County students in grades 2-8 visited last week, Greene County High School students are visiting this week, and Paton-Churdan students will visit next week. The school visits are hosted primarily by retired teachers, and grade-appropriate activities are planned.
The exhibit examines the many roles that sports play in American society, the ways hometown sports shape our lives and celebrate who we are as Americans.
The exhibit includes professionally designed displays from the Smithsonian and displays of sports over the decades in every Greene County town and school.
The Hometown Teams exhibit is in Jefferson through Sept. 23. Hours are Saturdays from 10 am to 6 pm; Sundays from 12 to 6 pm; Wednesdays from 1to 6 pm; and Thursdays from 3 to 9 pm. There is no admission charge.
The exhibit is brought to Greene County by Jefferson Matters: Main Street and Main Street Iowa.
